not an overdose if deficient

Recent research has show Vit D deficiency to be present in large numbers of the US population. Many are in offices all day, use of sunscreen blocks the natural Vit D obtained by sun exposure, people in northern latitudes get no benefit from the sun from November to April,

Optimal serum Vit D hydrox levels are above 32, I am 11.

I was prescribed ergocalciferol 50,000 units weekly by my endocrinologist.

I have problems with additives and dyes in meds so asked if I could use Vit D3, cholecalciferol, instead. He said I would need less D3 because it is more potent that D2 but he knew of no pharmacutical brand that produced that. I told him about this and he agreed I could use it.

I would only need 2000 units per day and this product is a pure form from a reliable manufacturer.

It is now being suggested that the current RDA is too low, that many adults could use 1000 units per day and more than 2000 units daily could be toxic.

There have been so many disease states that have shown improvement with adequate vitamin D levels that new recommendations for daily requirement will be forthcoming.
